Harris joins DeWitt in Poltergeist
Jared Harris is set to star in the Poltergeist remake.
The Mad Men star has landed the lead role of Carrigan, a "larger than life TV personality" who is the star host of cable TV show Haunted House Cleaners, reported Deadline.
He will be reunited with his Mad Men co-star, US actress Rosemarie DeWitt, who was cast as the female lead role.
Sam Rockwell is rumoured to have a part in Gil Kenan's MGM and Fox 2000 remake of the 1982 horror movie, which is expected to start shooting this year for a 2014 release.
The original Oscar-nominated film, which was co-written and produced by Steven Spielberg, starred JoBeth Williams and Craig T Nelson as Diane and Steven Freeling, whose lives were turned upside down when spirits started plaguing their home and their daughter was kidnapped.
Jared, who stars in The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones, will next voice a character in the upcoming Laika animated film, The Boxtrolls.
The 52-year-old will also star in horror thriller The Quiet Ones with Sam Claflin and is attached to Paul WS Anderson's Pompeii alongside Kit Harington, Emily Browning and Kiefer Sutherland.
