Harrison Ford's Return of Han Solo?

Harrison Ford could return for the new Star Wars film

Harrison Ford is rumoured to be open to reprising his role as Han Solo in the new Star Wars sequel.

Last week it was announced that three new Stars Wars movies are in the pipeline after creator George Lucas sold his company to Disney in a £2.5 billion deal.

A source close to the new project told Entertainment Weekly's Inside Movies blog: "Harrison is open to the idea of doing the movie and he's upbeat about it, all three of them are."

This refers to Harrison, Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker, and Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia, who all shot to fame after starring in the original Star Wars film in 1977.

But the rumours indicate that if Harrison does return as Han Solo, it may just be a cameo before he is killed off.

The 70-year-old actor has gone on to star in blockbusters The Fugitive, Air Force One, Bladerunner and the Indiana Jones film series.

In an interview with ABC in 2010 he said of Solo: "As a character he was not so interesting to me."

He added: "I thought he should have died in the last one to give it some bottom... George didn't think there was any future in dead Han toys."

Following Disney's purchase of the franchise last week, it was revealed that a seventh movie, with the working title Episode 7, is set for release in 2015.
