Hathaway: Catwoman is dream role
Anne Hathaway has revealed that she never expected to play Catwoman.
The 29-year-old actress - who stars in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises - had dreamed of stepping into the iconic role, following Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry's portrayals, but never thought it would actually happen.
"It's kind of a dream I never let myself have. It's kind of the idea of being President is really fun, but you never actually think it's going to happen," she said.
"Because Michelle Pfeiffer was so iconic in the role, and then there was Halle Berry, so I didn't think there would be another Catwoman so soon. So the fact that I was the right age, available and Chris Nolan even wanted to meet with me. That was a big dream come true, just getting to meet Chris," she added.
Taking on the role previously played by Halle and Michelle is a nerve-wracking prospect, but Anne handled it like a pro.
"I was a little nervous coming in as the new kid on the block... But I actually found being the only person in the cast who hadn't worked with Chris before motivated me to work even harder," she says.
The actress recalled the first moment she slipped into the figure-hugging catsuit: "The first time I was in it, Christian (Bale) was in the Batman suit and Tom (Hardy) came out as Bane, and I got a chill.
"I remember thinking, 'This is going to be extraordinary', and then because I'm neurotic, I thought, 'Or we're going to look like rejects from Hollywood Boulevard!'," she added.
The Dark Knight Rises is in cinemas now.
