Heyman signs on for Jesus film

David Heyman is set to produce religious-themed drama Zealot, about the life of Jesus Christ.

The Gravity and Harry Potter producer is said to be on board for the big-screen adaptation of Reza Aslan's book Zealot: The Life And Times Of Jesus Of Nazareth, which he would co-produce with Jeff Clifford, reported Deadline.

James Schamus is adapting the Iranian-American scholar's book, which was acquired by Lionsgate.

Zealot, which was published in 2013, is a historical account of the religious figure, analysing the various perspectives on Jesus and the creation of Christianity. Set in 1st century Palestine, it challenges long-held assumptions about him.

A search for a director and cast is under way.

David is also producing the Paddington film about the beloved bear, and the film version of Erika Johansen's The Queen Of The Tearling, which Emma Watson is attached to.

The British producer will also return to the world of Harry Potter with the Warner Bros spin-off Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, which would mark the screenwriting debut of Potter creator JK Rowling.
