Hiddleston to play country legend

Tom Hiddleston is to show off his singing skills when he plays country icon Hank Williams in a new movie.

The Avengers actor will star as the late American singer in a film about his life called I Saw The Light, reported Deadline.

Tom, 33, will also sing and play the guitar in the role, performing some of Hank's best known hits including Your Cheatin' Heart, I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry and Hey Good Lookin'.

Marc Abraham wrote the script and will direct the film about Hank's rise to fame and life, which is based on a biography by Colin Escott.

Hank was considered to be one of the most important country music singer-songwriters. He died from heart failure in 1953 at the age of 29.

Shooting on I Saw The Light is due to start in Louisiana later this year.
