The UK’s most talked-about twins — John and Edward Grimes — are winning over the Irish public, say bookmakers Paddy Power.

Following Saturday night’s X Factor performance, the Dublin duo have seen an increase in support among Irish gamblers.

Their rendition of Britney Spears’ Oops I Did It Again has allegedly gained more fans, with Paddy Power reporting a significant increase in the volume of bets on the boys going the distance.

The odds of them lasting another week are 7/4 and they are 12/1 to make it all the way to the final.

One devoted fan from Lucan, Co Dublin, placed a stake of €200 on the boys to win at odds of 50/1. If the teenage twins do emerge victorious, the punter will walk away with a whopping €10,000.

Sharon McHugh, spokeswoman for Paddy Power, said: “People can slate John and Edward all they want, but there’s no denying they were very entertaining on Saturday night and they appear to be growing on our punters.”

However, their controversial survival on Sunday night prompted boos from the X Factor studio audience and judge Cheryl Cole to express shock that one of her finalists, Rikki Loney, was going home instead.

Cole told the audience: “I can't believe John and Edward are still here and he's (Rikki) going home.”

Defending his mentor, Loney, who was given the chop after performing Aretha Franklin's Respect, said she was not being vindictive towards the twins, but she was simply being “supportive” of him.
