Irish X Factor twins John and Edward steal the show with Ghostbusters theme
Monday, 9 November 2009
Who ya gonna call? John and Edward! The off-tune Dublin twins single-handedly saved The X Factor on Saturday night with a show-stopping production of Ghostbusters.
Simon says he'll leave the country if they win, but in the words of their mentor Louis Walsh: “Don't forget to send us a postcard, Simon!”
What a performance, boys – because with a full-size Ghostbusters van, Michael Jackson-style dance routine and on-stage zombies, their vocal ability — or lack of it — wasn't really an issue.
In a week of pantomime judge feuds, contestants having hissy fits backstage and yet more tears, it's clear The X Factor is no longer about singing — if it were, surely Rachel (remember her?) would still be in the show.
Say what you like about John and Edward, but they are the only contestants this series who haven't bored us to tears with sad tales about dying relatives, faux weeping and constant harping about “my X Factor journey”.
The more cynical among us might question their position in the running order on last night's show — the acts singing near the end always do better and keeping 'Jedward' until the end of the show means guaranteed high ratings — but in this case it was definitely a case of saving the best till last.
This weekend the theme was Songs From The Movies, which meant the eight remaining contestants could sing any song that has featured on a film soundtrack. But even the song choices caused rows between the tetchy judges, with Louis accusing Simon of “cheating” for using Crying — it's from 1997 little-known indie movie Gummo apparently!
Tensions were running high right from the start as the fifth live show got underway with a lukewarm performance from Stacey Solomon — and the poor comments that followed the Essex girl's performance set the tone for the evening.
Even Dermot O'Leary didn't escape the caustic comments from Louis, who put him firmly in his place and reminded him he was the host and not a judge.
The judges were all on catty form, ripping into every act with comments ranging from: “It was like having tea with my mum” to “you're unsatisfying — like eating a Chinese meal”.
And you know what? They were right — until John and Edward appeared, The X Factor lacked the fun factor.
Thankfully Cheryl Cole left her fancy dress at home this week after last week's frocky horror and stuck to a demure little black dress. She gave a nod to movie star glamour with gorgeous ’50s-inspired curls while Dannii Minogue and her ever-changing hair looked like a screen goddess in a white Grecian-style full-length gown.

I think its right that Simon put it to public vote, because it is the public who decide the winner, and yesterday it just happened that they decided that John and Edward were their favourites. People who aren't happy, just stop watching the show, and stop complaining.

Simon is there to judge so why let the public take the vote. He is just frightened that Lucie will outshine his boys as she is a talented young lady with a lovely voice she should not even have been in the bottom 2. What is going on with the judges, the only professional one seems to be Danni, you never see Cheryl even look in Danni's direction whatever the problem should be left behind stage it has been noticeable to many people. Get a grip judges and judge the show fairly. Simon has certainly let the side down me and many others have decided that enough is enough, no more viewing of the XFactor.

after this week`s show im not going to watch x factor anymore, this was a joke!simon is a big spoiled child and it all looks like a competition between the judges not the talented singers.and i believe simon knew that the twins got more votes and lucy would be sent home, and she is defenately one of the strongest singers in the competition!wtf?its all about the money, because twins make the show more interesting and fun and they attract more people for the show.and that idiot simon kept them for this i think!no matter for who people vote, one of his guys is going to win anyway.and louis walsh with his stupid comments to presenter?so what that he is a judge,he is a very stupid one,and after these comments so many people wont like him anymore.

COME ON JEDWARD! You are awesome!
Look, Simon put it to the public vote and rightly so...Lucy went out purely because the public favour her - Jedward got the most votes.
Now could you imagine the Republic of Ireland could vote in this contest? Jeddie would never be in the final 2! Every other person in the competition has the support of their home towns and the comfort of their vote. While Dublin are undoubtedly backing Jedward they can't vote for them. Does the fact they are still here not say something? Jedward are cute loveable funny guys - their performance every week is with out a doubt the best every week. They are two young fellas just giving it their all - get a sense of nationality and support your own!!!!

the show has become a joke,,,,take the judging ,,the last 2 acts will have the 2 judges that sponsor them ,,so that leaves the 2 other judges to decide ,,,1 votes and the i leaves it to the public ,,so in effect the public desides ,,,joke

Louis Walsh may well be a judge but he is just not a very good one. He is a pedantic, sad little man who gets overly excited if he thinks he has made a clever comment - and he is a bitter little man when things get the better of him. Anyone with ears cannot seriously think that those twins have talent - novelty value yes, talent? - under no circumstances. And whether people admit it or not every act, regardless of who their mentor is, all want Simon's approval - after all he is the one that counts.

What a FIX! I think it's time to stop watching - Simon is obviously more concerned with ratings rather than talent - they should call it RATINGS-FACTOR.
