Jai Courtney for Terminator Genesis

Jai Courtney has bagged the role of Kyle Reese in the new Terminator reboot movie.

The Australian actor - who played Bruce Willis's son in A Good Day To Die Hard - will star alongside Emilia Clarke and Jason Clarke in Terminator: Genesis, several sources have told The Hollywood Reporter.

Paramount had no comment to make on the casting.

Kyle Reese became a hero in James Cameron's original movie by travelling back in time to father John Connor, the future saviour of the world, with Sarah Connor.

Game Of Thrones star Emilia Clarke and Zero Dark Thirty's Jason Clarke are playing Sarah Connor and John Connor in the reboot, which will be directed by Thor: The Dark World's Alan Taylor.

The studio has tested a number of actors for all the lead parts to find their stars. The role of Kyle reportedly came down to Jai and model-turned-actor Boyd Holbrook.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is expected to reprise his signature cyborg role in the film, which will involve time travel into the future, and is due for release in July 2015.
