Jim Carrey's trainable for Gugino

Jim Carrey gave the penguins in Mr Popper's Penguins a run for their money when it came to being trained, Carla Gugino has revealed.

The Sucker Punch actress stars alongside the funnyman in the family film, where Jim plays a businessman who finds his life turned upside down after he inherits six Gentoo penguins.

"He's pretty crazy and pretty funny, but he is more trainable than a penguin," Carla said.

"Penguins are not the brightest creatures, they're not really trainable, as I now know. But you cannot not smile when you have a penguin in the room."

The Ace Ventura actor kept the cast and crew on their toes throughout the shoot.

"It's interesting when you've grown up watching somebody on the screen. He's also a serious guy and cares a lot about his work, but there's no doubt that there were many times off camera where the crew was laughing and we had to re-do the take. It was really funny," she added.

Based on a 1938 children's book of the same name, Mr Popper's Penguins - which also stars Ophelia Lovibond and Angela Lansbury - has been directed by Mark Waters (Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past, Mean Girls).

"I think all of the kids in my life, my godchildren are so excited to see it. It's nice to do. I really do love doing something like Sucker Punch, which has such a darker turn, and then being able to do something like that that's really family friendly," Carla added.
