Joaquin to star in Woody Allen film

Joaquin Phoenix has signed up to star in Woody Allen's next film.

The untitled movie is due to begin filming in July and Joaquin is the first cast member to be announced, reported Variety.

It will be the first time the Oscar-nominated Walk The Line star has worked with Woody.

The writer-director's latest film Magic In The Moonlight, his 47th, is set to open in cinemas in July. The movie is set in the south of France and stars British actors Eileen Atkins, Colin Firth and Simon McBurney and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 actress Emma Stone. The cast also includes Marcia Gay Harden, Hamish Linklater and Jacki Weaver.

Woody has been nominated for 24 Oscars and won for directing and writing Annie Hall and for writing Midnight In Paris and Hannah And Her Sisters.

His last film Blue Jasmine saw Cate Blanchett scoop the Best Actress Oscar earlier this year for her portrayal of a fallen socialite suffering a mental breakdown.
