Johansson's alien transformation

Scarlett Johansson has revealed she undergoes a "metamorphosis" in Under The Skin.

The actress, who is also promoting Joseph Gordon-Levitt's drama Don Jon at the Toronto International Film Festival, plays an alien seductress who preys on men in Scotland in Jonathan Glazer's supernatural thriller.

"The character I play in Don Jon is very staid in her opinions and her ideals. Whereas this character is much more of a metamorphosis, it's a transformation," she told Variety.

Based on Michael Faber's novel, Under The Skin - which screened at TIFF on Monday (September 9) - took the Sexy Beast director 10 years to make. It was shot on location in Glasgow and the Scottish Highlands.

"It was a very abstract beginning for the first couple of weeks until it found its heartbeat," Scarlett joked of the production.

She added: "When I first read a version of (the script), it was almost about this couple together trying to blend into the community. It was a very different story."
