John Hurt has been cast in Snow Piercer

John Hurt is set to join the star-studded cast of Snow Piercer, he has confirmed.

The Bafta-winning actor revealed he will be appearing alongside Tilda Swinton, Chris Evans and Jamie Bell in Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-Ho's English language debut.

"All the film crew refer to him, with great reverence, as Director Bong. I love the fact that I am working for Director Bong," the 72-year-old told the Telegraph.

Based on the French graphic novel La Transperceneige, the sci-fi thriller is set in a post-apocalyptic winter world and follows a train full of survivors who are battling to stay alive. It is not known what roles the cast will play yet.

Filming is expected to begin in March for a 2013 release.

John - who hopes his latest short film Sailcloth will be an Oscars contender - will next star in a new BBC adaptation of Henry V alongside Tom Hiddleston as the king and Julie Walters as Mistress Quickly.
