Jon Favreau cooks off at LA hotel

Jon Favreau has been improving his culinary skills for his new film role

Jon Favreau has been picking up culinary tips from the chefs at a LA hotel, for his new film Chef.

The Iron Man actor and director - who will direct and star in the upcoming movie - was seen working as a temporary protege of top chef Roy Choi at Wolfgang Puck's restaurant at Hotel Bel-Air as part of his hands-on research for the indie comedy, said The Hollywood Reporter.

Jon, who donned chef whites and a black bandanna, assisted Roy with preparing seafood dishes as the rest of the kitchen staff barely batted their eyelids at the celebrity until the end of the night, when they challenged him to make an omelette.

Roy said that the director has been with him for several weeks now, "in all of my kitchens, working his way through, to see what it's really all about - the whole journey."

Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Sofia Vergara and John Leguizamo round out the ensemble cast of Chef, which is expected to be released in May 2014.
