Nicole Kidman has revealed that she wanted to challenge herself on The Paperboy.
The Australian actress wore a stunning red dress at the movie's premiere at the New York Film Festival, as she walked the red carpet with husband Keith Urban.
"I always want to jump into bold and fearless places, things that make me scared. I think we all knew that we were pushing ourselves and we were all willing to do it," she said.
She previously told CBS News: "I'm now 45 years old and I've worked a lot with many different directors and many different places and experienced so many things. I wanted to be in place that I haven't been before. I wanted to be uncomfortable in those places sometimes, but I wanted to go home at night and feel discomfort at times, and feel challenged. It's very, very hard to find those roles."
Nicole - who plays Charlotte Bless, a Southern woman who becomes the pen pal of a death row inmate (played by John Cusack) in Lee Daniels' drama - earlier admitted she stayed in character during the filming and never even introduced herself to her co-star, even though they had to shoot a sex scene on the first day.
"I never spoke to him throughout the shoot as John. At the very end of the film he came to my trailer and said, 'Hi, I'm John!'" she said.
Zac Efron and Matthew McConaughey also star in The Paperboy.
