Kristen Wiig could be set to star in the Anchorman sequel.

The Bridesmaids actress is being approached to play Steve Carell's character's love interest in Anchorman: The Legend Continues, TheWrap reported.

The film - due out next autumn - sees the original cast - Steve, Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate and Paul Rudd - return.

The script is still being penned for the film, directed by Adam McKay..

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy starred Will as a newsman in the 1970s male-dominated world of broadcasting.

Saturday Night Live star Kristen has just finished filming Hateship Friendship with Guy Pearce and The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty with Ben Stiller and stars in indie film Imogene.
