Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have an undeniable chemistry, Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has revealed.
But the Twilight couple, who started dating after playing on-screen lovers Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, were warned by the filmmaker about their romance because Kristen was only 17 at the time.
"I don't now what the laws were in England and so I just wanted to be sure he knew that we did have a law here," she told Access Hollywood.
Catherine, who helmed the first story in the Twilight Saga, said Red Riding Hood actor Shiloh Fernandez was a frontrunner for the role of Edward, but lost out because Robert's chemistry with Kristen was evident for all to see.
"He was beat out by Rob because Rob and Kristen they just had that chemistry," she continued.
"I brought the four guys that I thought were the best and Kristen had to make out with them or do four different scenes with them and at the end of those two days she said, 'it's gotta be Rob'."
Kristen and Robert are currently filming the final instalment of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, which will be released as two separate films. The first part will open in November and the second part in November 2012.
