Kylie Minogue has confessed her "heart cries out" for a return to acting, but past flops have put her off.
The former Neighbours star - whose film roles include an appearance in 90s video game flick Street Fighter - co-stars with Eva Mendes in new film Holy Motors, which premiered at the Cannes film festival to promising reviews.
Kylie told The Guardian: "I'd definitely love to do more acting. My heart cries out for it; it's such a deep longing.
"For years I've been waiting to get back into it and it just hasn't happened. Or, it has happened and it was so disastrous that I thought: 'Oh, it's just not for me.'"
But the singer admitted she will have to work hard for audiences to see her as an actress, and put aside her sexy pop star image.
Kylie said: "I've got a lot of work to do before people stop thinking: 'Oh, what's Kylie Minogue doing in a film?'
"But this has made me feel it's possible to do something beautiful and challenging, and to be believable as someone else."
