Larne-linked Michael Fassbender in shake-up to be next 007
Speculation is growing that a rising Hollywood star with links to Larne could be named the next James Bond.
Michael Fassbender is said to be in the running - alongside James Norton, Tom Hardy and Idris Elba - to take over the licence to kill when Daniel Craig hangs up his tuxedo. Craig is the second longest serving 007, surpassed only by Roger Moore. It is rumoured he will star in just one more Bond blockbuster.
X-Men alumnus Fassbender was born in Germany, but his mother hails from the Co Antrim port town. He was brought up in Killarney, Co Kerry, and got his big break starring as a Spartan warrior in the movie 300. He also played Bobby Sands in Steve McQueen's 2008 drama Hunger.
