Laura Dern's new string to her bow

Laura Dern has joined the cast of Strings

Laura Dern has been cast in indie film Strings.

Transformers actor Josh Duhamel has already signed up for the debut movie by director Daniel Duran, who is known for making more than 50 music videos.

The Hollywood Reporter describes Strings as a "music-orientated indie" film which follows a young, drug-addicted DJ (Lucas Till), who is ordered by a court to live with his estranged father.

Josh plays an army veteran-turned-counsellor in the film, written by Oscar Torres, who makes a shocking discovery when he treats the DJ.

Wild At Heart star Laura is currently filming When The Game Stands Tall and is also about to work on Mothers Day, with Sharon Stone, Susan Sarandon and Christina Ricci.

Dern will play Mary, a beautiful, but beaten-down woman who has never recovered from the death of her eldest son.

The film just began shooting in Winnipeg, Canada.

Dern's schedule opened up after the cancellation of HBO's Enlightened. She was last seen playing an eerily dedicated follower in Paul Thomas Anderson's enigmatic drama The Master.
