Laura White gets boot from X Factor

Sunday, 9 November 2008

X Factor hopeful Laura White has become the fifth contestant to be booted off the show.

In a sing-off against Ruth Lorenzo, the 21-year-old performed Somewhere Over The Rainbow which she dedicated to her grandfather.

But White's mentor Cheryl Cole was the only judge who voted to keep her in the competition, with Dannii Minogue, Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell all electing to save Lorenzo.

Earlier this week Minogue tipped White, from Atherton in Lancashire, to win this year's X Factor.

Before he gave the contestants his verdict, Cowell said: "First of all you were not the worst two singers tonight so I don't know what went wrong tonight it was a joke. Both of you sang your hearts out. Whatever I say is going to be unpopular."

Neither White nor Cole were able to say anything when the result was announced.

Mariah Carey took to the stage to sing Hero with the X Factor contestants, whose version of the song shot to number one in the charts last Sunday.

After her performance Carey said: "I did think that they were all shining today because it takes a lot to get up here and do this."

And Cowell complemented the singer on her performance: "I love Mariah. Mariah very simply is the biggest star in the world. I don't think Mariah gets enough credit either for being a great song writer."

Diana Vickers was too ill to take part in the Mariah Carey-themed show this week.

Laura is bigger and better than the X factor, that's why they voted her off. Laura is a vocal artist who needs her own space to perform here talent; you only need to listen to her own songs to appreciate that. I believe she is the worlds best vocal artist, I have been continually listening to her own songs, her voice just grows and grows you feel yourself immersed and intoxicated. I remember once saying I don't like girl singers! How wrong could I be?

The X Factor is not fairly judged. I feel that the public are not judging contestants on their ability. The whole thing is bizzare and we do not want to watch it anymore. Talented acts have gone, it's ridiculous. Why has Austin gone it does not make sense, the whole programme is a sham

I Can Not Believe Laura Was Voted Off, Just Because Simon Loves Rhuth, And She Cant Sing As Good As Laura. I Think A Formal Complient Should Be Made To The X - Factor, Because Compare Laura And Alexandra TO Daniel !! He's A Good Singer, But For A Kareoke. Think About It, Will The Kids Be Downloading His Songs ?? I Strongly Believe She Should Be Brought Back, And If Daniel Doesnt Go Tomorrow I Am Making The Complient My Self. Olivia Whittingham.

louis obviously kept ruth in because he knows she is the weekest, which therfore would keep his act in for a few more weeks. i agree with cheryl its is tactical and i think they should return Laura.
u r a fantastic singer laura and do not give up on ur dream.
hopefully they will return her so she can carry on.ythis is a complete joke it really is!

I would buy Laura's Cd as soon it was released. She is fantastic. the X is loosing credibility by let things like this to heappen. Louis clearly voted her out so maby his boy band can stay for one o two week more in the show. I wont watch X factor ever again.

laura is what i would call world class, its a long time since ive heard a voice that send shivers up my spine,i would buy her album tommorrow she is truly outstanding.xfactor has become a farce, not about talent anymore, simply rivalary against the judges.i tried over and over to vote foi her but could not get my vote registered,it is an outrage, show should be rerun.

I agree with most of the people below.

I think there is something going on in x factor, i mean last week Austin was voted out who i thought should have been in the final then Laura this week.. Someone is having a laugh.

Austin was a better singer last week and Laura was a better singer this week and they both got voted out.

I think judges are voting off people who they think are a threat to there contestants.

My final 4 was always Laura, Austin, Alexandra and JLS.

Now it has to be Diana, Alexandra and JLS.

If one of them go next week then something in that x factor is going terribly wrong.

Alexandra or JLS to win

I was almost in tears about Laura going. She is absoulutly amazing and her vocal is incredible. I can imangine her face on a CD. She is so pretty and I can't get over the fact she has gone. I looked forward to seeing her every week and endlessly watch her performances on Youtube. I do think Ruth is very good but Laura is on a level of her own. Ruth could not pull of the song Laura sang on Big band week. Lois and Simon just voted her out because they want their own act to win. I thought Simon would actually have the decency to keep the talent in. I'm soo devaststated for Laura and can't imangine how she feels. Daniel should have gone out ages ago and Austin should still be in.
I love Laura soo much and she definately could have won. X

i think it was really unfair because laura was one of the three of the best acts on there. its not 'Boob factor its 'X factor'. Ruth only got through because simon cowell fancies her. Her singing was flat on the mariah song and she screemed on 'knocking on heavens door'. If i watch it this week and dianna and alexandra get voted of i wont be watching it again because it means its fixed.

To be fair to Daniel, he doesn't appear to have played the sympathy vote at all and has taken all the negative feedback from both Simon and Louis with a smile although he must be hurt. Keep going Daniel, I think you're fab!! xx

Why was anyone voted off this week? if Diana was unable to sing and take part then everyone else should be given a free week. When all conrestants are fit and well the bottom 2 the following week should be sent packing. That why its fair to everyone taking part and the public who vote decide who stays or goes, the only downside to this is that there would be no phone vote for the free week and thus no money made for the tv companies coffers. To be seen as being fair no one should automatically pass into the next stage as they have not been voted into this stage by the VOTING public.

I was shocked to see Laura go too, but I personally wanted Ruth to stay: she is incredible when she sings rock songs. My thoughts are that Laura has proved to have an incredible voice and so she is very likely to get a contract now anyway, while Ruth still needs more exposure if she is to get further professionally: it is not easy for foreign artists to break into the British music market. She has been in the bottom two twice because she doesn't have that many people to vote for her, perhaps for being an outsider with no real links to any part of the country...

I think this was the wrong decision, I have now lost interest in the whole show, will not be watching it again , its all about the Judges now getting one up on each other.

laura should have been in the final.

IF this is a reality show and Mr Cowell WANTS the public to vote, WHY is he so anti, when the public do not vote as he wishes?

After all it's the public who are voting who are going to purchase the music of whoever is lucky eough to win and presumably get a contract?

Mr Cowell must also remember that not everyone has the same ear as he has, what he considers good, sounds like cat-a-whalling to some of us!!!

After all, surely we do not all have to like "pop" music, do we?
Having said that, I think the young boy band who are left are charasmatic and CAN sing. They appeal to people of all ages. Just one more thing, not only for Simon Cowell but for the general TV people, will you PLEASE remember that the kids do NOT pay the TV licence, it's us oldies 35 and over.... who do... So WHy are most TV programs aimed at kids?

Personally I thought Ruth sang better in the sing off and thats what it is counted on. To be fair Daniel isnt a bad singer at all- are people slagging him off because he is older, maybe a bit bigger set and doesnt fit in with the pop star look?

contestents lives should not be made public this is a show to find the best singers not about how hard a life they have had.years ago an audition was performed very often in front of someone who didnt even know your name,if you were good you got through simple as,and crying just prooved you couldnt hack it so shouldnt be there.no sympathy given.
