Hunger Games producers immediately knew Jennifer Lawrence was right for the film franchise after her audition, they have said.

Producer Nina Dobson told Variety that over 50 actresses tried out for the role of Katniss Everdeen, but were not in contention as soon as Jennifer, then 20, read her lines.

She told Variety: "I teared up. We had a lot of wonderful actresses at the audition, but it was game over at that point."

Gary Ross, who directed the film, added: "I got choked up. You only see that kind of talent once in a generation - that kind of intensity and emotional power.

"If you don't find the right performer, you don't have the movie. So I felt like, 'Now I can make the movie'."

Since making the film, Jennifer has won an Oscar for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook.

But Nina said that she hadn't changed, telling Variety: "She's not a diva - she's the anti-diva."
