Lawrence tipped for Hunger Games
Jennifer Lawrence is vying with Hailee Steinfeld for the lead role in Hunger Games, according to reports.
Both Oscar nominees are reported to be in the running for the part of Katniss in the big-screen adaptation of the teenage dystopian novel, to be directed by Gary Ross.
According to Variety, which also adds Abigail Breslin to the list, Winter's Bone star Jennifer is the frontrunner ahead of True Grit actress Hailee.
"I've met with Gary Ross and it's definitely something that we're taking one day at a time and making sure everything is in place and everything is ready," Hailee has been quoted as telling MTV.
Gary has previously stated that what makes the character of Katniss attractive is her strength, assuredness, defiance "and ultimately her compassion", and that the film - based on the first of three books by Suzanne Collins - wouldn't exclude its teenage audience.
Hunger Games is expected to be released in 2012.
