Leary praises co-star Garfield

Andrew Garfield has been praised by co-star Denis Leary

Andrew Garfield is "a brilliant actor", according to his Amazing Spider-Man co-star Denis Leary.

The 54-year-old actor, who portrays Captain George Stacy (Gwen's dad), got to work opposite the British star on Marc Webb's forthcoming superhero movie, in which Andrew steps into the role of the web-slinging hero.

"It's up to the audience if they like him as Spider-Man. I think he's brilliant, I think he's great," he said at the American Red Cross's annual Red Tie Affair in Los Angeles.

Denis - who was honoured with the Spirit Service Award at the star-studded ceremony - had only high praise for Andrew's talents.

"I have to tell you that he's a brilliant actor. I know he was getting rave reviews in Death Of A Salesman, which I saw, which he is absolutely brilliant in," he continued.

"And I know working across from him on camera on Spider-Man, he's a brilliant actor."

Emma Stone and Rhys Ifans also star in The Amazing Spider-Man, which opens in cinemas in July.
