Lego Movie 2 under construction

The Lego Movie, featuring the voices of Elizabeth Banks, Will Ferrell and Chris Pratt, is set to return for a sequel.

The animated film based on the children's toys is yet to be released in cinemas, but a follow-up has been given the green light, with work already under way, sources have told The Wrap.

Jared Stern, who wrote The Internship and Mr Popper's Penguins, is said to be working on the script for the second film with Michelle Morgan.

The Lego Movie, which also features the vocal talents of Morgan Freeman, Channing Tatum, Liam Neeson, Jonah Hill and Cobie Smulders, follows an ordinary construction worker (voiced by Chris) who is mistaken for the Special - the greatest Master Builder who can save the Lego universe from evil tyrant Lord Business (Will).

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller wrote and directed the first film, which will be released in the US this weekend and in the UK on February 14.
