Lily Collins: I want to go it alone

Lily Collins stars in indie film Stuck In Love

Lily Collins has revealed she wants to achieve things on her own merit, rather than because of who her father is.

The actress offspring of singer Phil Collins plays the teenage daughter of a famous novelist, who wants to become a successful writer herself in her new film Stuck In Love. Lily admitted she could relate to that feeling.

The Mirror Mirror star said: "Her dad was a very famous writer, and she wants to go into the same business, yet she wants to do it on her own merit and really go after it for herself.

"And I could relate to that, with family and really appreciating what your family has given you, but at the same wanting to do things on your own. And I think she's very determined."

The 24-year-old actress, who stars in the indie love story with Jennifer Connelly, Greg Kinnear and Logan Lerman, revealed she likes to think of herself as a romantic, but admits she is realistic about love.

Lily said: "I definitely believe in love and believe in all the fairytale aspects of it and being swept off your feet and giddiness and butterflies, I think all that is impossible for me not to believe in.

"But at the same time you have to think realistically about where you're at personally. It's situational. It's about not letting your mind get to much in the way of your heart, but at the same time being smart about things."

:: Stuck In Love is released in cinemas on Friday June 14.
