Louis Walsh: Susan Boyle isn't a great singer
Friday, 24 April 2009
She might have wooed Simon Cowell and the world but Britain's Got Talent star Susan Boyle hasn't hit the right notes for X Factor judge Louis Walsh.
The Mayo man has declared that he's not a fan of the spinster, dubbed the 'hairy angel', who has taken the world by storm.
"Susan is a pretty good singer but she's not a great singer," claims the pop guru.
And Walsh believes that the assumption Boyle will win the competition could be wide of the mark.
Bookies have installed Boyle as the favourite to win the talent show based on her huge media exposure.
Susan, whose parents Patrick and Bridget were Irish, has been a regular pilgrim to Walsh's home county where she honed her voice at Knock Basilica.
However, that hasn't been enough to impress the man behind acts such as Boyzone and Westlife.
Since appearing on the show she has been invited onto numerous American chat shows and become a YouTube sensation.
The 47-year-old left judges Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden dumbfounded with her performance of I Dreamed A Dream.
Many of her own neighbours in the village of Blackburn in West Lothian, Scotland heard her heavenly voice for the first time when she joined them on the annual Legion of Mary pilgrimage to Knock shrine.

Before the show, the Scot told how she lived alone with her pet cat Pebbles and had never been kissed.
On stage, the audience burst into laughter when she explained that her dream was to be a professional singer.
However, jaws dropped as soon as she began singing the Les Miserables epic.
Since then her performance has been viewed nearly 100m times.
And while Louis Walsh isn't impressed, a host of other high-profile names are lining up to endorse her.
Former British prime minister Tony Blair is a fan and singer Sheryl Crow said: "She gave me chill bumps when I heard her."

It has to be said, If Susan was a pretty young girl and sang the way she does, no one would give a damn about her. Take it how you like, it's the truth. She has a good voice, but no where near professional.
I still.. wish her all the best, it's nice to see someone who doesn't fit into the world of celebrity, get a chance to shine. But if i hear one more person say she has the voice of an angel, I'm afraid i'm going to squeeze a coke can, real hard!!

Susan I think you are brilliant. I would love to be able to sing on key, never mind being able to sing like you. I wish you well. Love from Elizabeth

Louis, Louis, Louis ...... can you not just let her have her little bit of fame??? This is just too snide even for you!!! You do not dictate our choice, if we think she is a great singer that's all that matters because it is the public who will buy her cd's, attend concerts etc. We certainly do not wait for you to give your seal of approval, before we decide. Even America and most of the rest of the world already regard her as a star, so who are you to criticise the approval of global internet??? Perhaps you're starting to believe your own PR??? Take a holiday Louis, XFactor will be back soon enough!!!

She is a very fine singer, and well outside the orbit of these puny little 'talent' shows that LW seems to have something to do with. I look foreward to seeing her entertaining on my next cruise.

she's already realized her dream and much more.
have any of you who have little talent other than to make snide comments?

Obviously Louis has to get his bake back in the public eye some way - but this is really a low swipe. Don't listen to him, Susan, he's only one jaundiced voice as opposed to the millions who've seen and love through your performance on YouTube (whereas Louis is merely a 'tube'...) Go girl - for tomorrow night!

Hey Luie, if SUSAN BOYLE is not great, why does the world love her beautiful voice? You should make a appointment with the hearing doctor.

Its true though, she can sing but she doesn't sound like an angel riding about on a unicorn as a lot of people would have you believe. Two words Band and Wagon spring to mind!
If she was a plain looking 20 something no one would care less, its because she is an ugly wee woman, never been touched and all that everyone is ohh bless look at her sing even though she has a baek only a mother could love.
Louis Walsh has made a fortune bringing successful acts to the limelight, not just a few bars of a show tune.

Jo,
"And of course Louis is so multi talented having made his money on the backs of other people!"
You've just given the job description of an agent - what's your point?

could never stand Walsh on XFactor, everything he says makes me squirm. As for being a pop guru. dont make me laugh.

Lousi is right. Yes, Simon Cowell make make a few quid out of her short term but she'll be a one hit wonder just like most of the X-Factor winners and this time next year she'll be working in a bakery in Glasgow and still trying to lose her virginity!!!

the fickle public, sucked in constantly. This girl is making headlines because she is UGLY and can sing, thats her selling point. If a pretty girl had sang like her it would just be another nice girl with a nice voice, heard it all before, no big deal. Now everybody is so impressed with this lady because her uniqueness is her lack of looks. Its all very strange. Cowell is a genius

louis walsh is the multi million aire who brought us some of the biggest boy namds of all time...i dare say he doesnt care much for publicity or anything else considering his level of sucess i think hell laugh all the way to the bank

Good old Louis, takes an Irishman to voice some common sense.
He's so right, yes, she can hold a note, but as for being a 'great' singer??
Simon Cowell can sense a buck to be made, imagine someone lacking in visual appeal, but can sing, what a find (not!) But the emperor will lead his merry band of followers into making Susan a cash cow.

She'll have my vote, forget what that little rotter Walsh says
Posted by Kevin | 24.04.09, 10:32 GMT
Yes Louis, I'm sure you know better than the 100 million people from all over the world who watch her video repeatedly. They obviously know nothing. I have listened to every recording I can find of various artists singing 'I dreamed a dream' and they simply don't move me the way Susan's rendition does. Ruthie Henshall, although she obviously has a good singing voice, her rendition leaves me cold.

Louis Walsh is rubbish. Remember how he dissed Leona Lewis on X-factor, and she won nonetheless? That's the kind of rubbish Walsh is. Boyzone, Westlife. Humbug! I'm not sure if/why he recognises them as "talent"; he sure didn't see the talent in the 2 girls.

Susan Boyle I know, but who is Louis Walsh??? Seems to me he may be a little envious of BGT and their fame in America and around the rest of the world. Apparently he is not as good as HE believes HE is! In closing, HA, HA, HA!!!!!!! Mr. Walsh, who ever you are? Are you an out of work comedian?
