Macdonald to direct Elvis biopic

Kevin Macdonald has signed up to direct a biopic about Elvis Presley.

The Last King Of Scotland director is attached to helm Last Train To Memphis, about the life of the king of rock n roll, Variety reported.

Based on Peter Guralnick's 1995 biography, the film tells the story of Elvis' early years and his overnight transformation from a high school kid to singing heartthrob credited with creating a new music genre.

The search has now begun to find an actor to play Elvis, with the launch of a website,, where actors can submit audition tapes by singing six to eight bars of any of the King's songs.

Mick Jagger and Victoria Pearman will produce the film for Fox 2000 through their Jagged Films banner along with Steven Bing.

Rolling Stone Sir Mick is also in the process of co-producing a James Brown biopic directed by The Help's Tate Taylor.
