Tobey Maguire has reportedly been cut from Ang Lee's film Life Of Pi.
The Hollywood Reporter said that the former Spider-Man star had shot a brief role, as a writer who interviews the main character, in the movie.
But an insider says the Oscar-winning director felt the performance wasn't working and he has now been replaced by Rafe Spall.
A source close to Tobey said that the actor may have been too famous for the role, acting with a cast of relative unknowns.
Tobey said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter: "I fully support Ang's decision to go a different direction for this role in Life Of Pi.
"Ang shared a lot of the film with me, and what I saw was absolutely beautiful."
The director said: "To be consistent with the other casting choices made for the film, I decided to go with an entirely international cast.
"I very much admire Tobey and look forward to working with him again in the future."
