Mara offered role in The Martian

Kate Mara has been offered a part in Ridley Scott sci-fi film The Martian.

The actress has impressed since getting an Emmy nomination for her role in House Of Cards and could now join the cast of the 20th Century Fox project, according to Deadline.

It has already attracted a strong cast - Matt Damon is starring as an astronaut stranded on Mars and trying to make his way home, while Jessica Chastain and Kristen Wiig are both said to be circling roles to appear opposite him.

The film is based on the best-selling e-book by Andy Weir.

Kate is already signed up to play Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman in Fox's superhero film reboot Fantastic Four, while it was recently rumoured that Matt could be returning to his role as Jason Bourne in a new Bourne film.

The Martian is due to be released in cinemas on November 27, 2015.
