Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg took time out to enjoy their visit to Ireland ahead of the Irish premiere for Daddy's Home.

He's been busy promoting his new film but Mark Wahlberg still managed to fit in lunch with Co Down golf star Rory McIlroy.

Mark and his co-star Will Ferrell arrived in Dublin on Sunday, and the Ted star went straight to Portmarnock Golf Club.

As well as giving him a few tips, world number three McIlroy gave his A-list pal a nice gift.

"I played golf at Portmarnock, it was beautiful," Mark told the Herald.

"I'd love to come back here on vacation with my family.

"I had a bite to eat with Rory on Sunday and I was like, 'Dude, I need to come back, play golf and just hang out and see the sights'.

"I will at some point, it's just hard with work and the kids are in school."

"He gave me a new driver, which was great, I just can't wait to get to a golf course or a driving range and try it out," he added.

Meanwhile, Anchorman star Will was back in Dublin for the 12th time, and said he loves visiting.

"The Irish are so friendly and they really enjoy sitting down and talking to you and there is a real sense of community here that's unlike any other place here in the world," he said.

"That's what makes it special. And I love Guinness - I always have. I've loved it since I was in college."

Will also revealed he is working on getting three-time Academy award winner Daniel Day Lewis to appear in one of his comedies.

"We were trying to reach out to Daniel Day Lewis to see if he ever wanted to do a comedy," he said. "That would be amazing - it's cooking. We'll see."

As lovers of the black stuff, the funny duo hit the town, visiting Matt the Threshers for lunch before having a few scoops in Toners pub yesterday.

Daddy's Home: Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg find themselves alone in an empty Dublin bar ahead of premiere

On Sunday night, they visited a 'speakeasy', but Mark and Will weren't too impressed.

"We'd read about it the last time we were here, there was an article in Time Out New York about it so we had to check it out," Will said.

"But it wasn't much of a speakeasy. It was a guy put up a curtain in front of a doorway.

"We kept wondering, is this the place? There were plenty of seats and no one was there."

The pair were speaking at the Irish premiere of their new movie Daddy's Home at the Savoy Theatre last night.

Hundreds of fans waited for hours in the rain to get a selfie with the stars.

The film, directed by Sean Anders, follows a mild-mannered radio executive (Ferrell) who strives to become the best stepdad to his wife's two children, but complications arise when their freewheeling and freeloading father (Wahlberg) arrives, forcing him to compete for the affection of the kids.

Other guests at the premiere included Yvonne Connolly, boyband Hometown and comedian Jason Byrne.

The movie opens on December 26.
