Mark Wahlberg talks 50 Shades bid

Mark Wahlberg's production company bid for Fifty Shades Of Grey

Mark Wahlberg has insisted he wouldn't have starred in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades Of Grey even if his production company won the bidding war.

The Hollywood actor bid for the movie rights to EL James' best-selling trilogy but lost out to Universal Pictures and Focus Features.

He told The Tonight Show With Jay Leno: "We were in contact through our agency with the writer.

"Then for some reason she got another agent and then they realised what a valuable property it was, it created a bidding war and it just blew us out of it.

"We had the early beat on it and we were close to getting it but it didn't happen."

Mark added: "I wasn't going to star in it. But I would have liked to produce it. I knew what an exciting property it was."

Asked whether he would have also taken the opportunity to hang around the set of the raunchy film, he added: "I don't know if that would go down well with my wife... or my parish priest... maybe once in a while just to make sure everything was going to schedule and plan!"

Mark, 42, said he was excited about producing a movie version of Entourage, the comedy-drama TV series.

He said that he was not planning to star in the film, but "if they asked me to I will".

He told the US show: "I'd been clawing and scratching and trying to convince everybody to do it and everybody finally agreed that it was the best thing.

"I'm really excited that the guys are coming back, I know fans have really missed the show, so to get those guys back, doing what they do, will be great."

Sam Taylor-Johnson is directing Fifty Shades Of Grey, starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson.
