Matt Reeves to direct Apes sequel

Andy Serkis will be back for the Apes sequel

Matt Reeves is set to direct Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes.

The Cloverfield and Let Me In filmmaker is rumoured to have replaced Rupert Wyatt to take control of the Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes sequel, reported Deadline.

Other directors in the frame for the 2014 follow-up included Guillermo del Toro, J Blakeson (The Disappearance Of Alice Creed), Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later), Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter) and Juan Antonio Bayona (The Impossible).

Andy Serkis is the only cast member confirmed to reprise his role as Caesar the chimp, and details about the plot are under wraps.

Matt - who is attached to direct action drama This Dark Endeavour, fantasy action-adventure The Passage and sci-fi thriller Eight O'Clock In The Morning - is also expected to direct the rumoured and as-yet-untitled Cloverfield sequel.
