McConaughey not back for Magic Mike

Matthew McConaughey is not going to star in the Magic Mike sequel, Magic Mike XXL.

The Oscar winner had a lead role in the first hit stripper film alongside Channing Tatum, but director Greg Jacobs has confirmed that Matthew won't be back for another run.

He broke the news to Indiewire, and also dropped some hints about what the sequel will involve, putting paid to any rumours that he was attempting to cash in on making the same film twice.

Greg said: "What am I allowed to say? It's a road trip movie and put it this way, it's different enough that once you see it you'll understand why we made a sequel. No one will be accusing us of making the same movie twice."

Channing, Matt Bomer and Joe Manganiello will be returning for XXL, but it hasn't been confirmed yet whether any of the other cast will be back.

Shooting on the film is due to begin at the end of September and it will be released in cinemas on August 7, 2015.
