Meryl Streep to play rock star

Meryl Streep is set to play an ageing rock star in new indie flick Ricky And The Flash.

The comedy drama will be directed by Jonathan Demme, who won a best director Oscar for The Silence Of The Lambs, from a script by Juno writer Diablo Cody, according to The Wrap.

Meryl, 64, will play an old fading rock star who, after years of being estranged from her children, tries to rebuild her relationship with them as one of them goes through an ugly divorce.

The triple Oscar winner, whose most recent Academy Award was for her role as Margaret Thatcher, is currently filming Suffragette, in which she plays E mmeline Pankhurst.

Cody scooped a best screenplay Oscar for her debut film Juno, a comedy about a teenager coping with an unplanned pregnancy.
