Mike Leigh snapped in Turner role

Timothy Spall plays JMW Turner in Mike Leigh's forthcoming biopic about the English painter.

Timothy and director Mike previously worked together on Life Is Sweet, Secrets & Lies, Topsy-Turvy and All Or Nothing.

They have reunited for the as-yet-untitled film, which is currently in post-production, with Timothy taking the starring role as the painter who died in 1851 aged 76.

Producers have released what they have said is the first image from the film.

The director has previously said: "Turner as a character is compelling. I want to explore the man, his working life, his relationships and how he lived.

"But what fascinates me most is the drama that lies in the tension between this driven eccentric and the epic, timeless world he evoked in his masterpieces."
