Minions spin-off trailer unveiled

The trailer for Minions has been released, showing the origins story of the loveable yellow characters.

The spin-off prequel, featuring the voices of Sandra Bullock and Jon Hamm, will follow Kevin, one-eyed Stuart and Bob before their days with Despicable Me villain Gru (voiced by Steve Carell).

The trailer sees the group of minions evolving through the ages and serving a variety of despicable masters including evil dinosaur Tyrannosaurus Rex, Egyptian pharoahs, Dracula and French political leader Napoleon Bonaparte, before falling into a deep depression when their employers disappear.

"Finding a master was easy. Keeping a master was tricky," the voiceover revealed.

Determined to save their species, the trio then set out on an adventure to find a new evil boss to serve and their journey takes them from Antarctica to 1960s New York and London before leading them to their next potential master, the world's first ever female super-villain Scarlett Overkill (played by Sandra).

Mad Men star Jon will voice Scarlett's inventor husband Herb, while Allison Janney, Steve Coogan and Michael Keaton also lend their voices to characters.

Directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda, Minions will open in UK cinemas on June 26, 2015.
