Morgan Freeman rides into Ben-Hur

Morgan Freeman is the first star officially attached to the Ben-Hur remake.

The Oscar-winning actor, 77, will play Ildarin in director Timur Bekmambetov's film, reported Deadline.

He is the man who teaches the slave Ben-Hur to become a champion chariot racer.

So far Morgan is the only star definitely known to be on board.

However, there have been reports that Tom Hiddleston is being considered for the title role in the latest big screen adaptation of Lew Wallace's 1880 novel, Ben-Hur: A Tale Of The Christ.

The film, which is being backed by MGM and Paramount studios, is scheduled to be released on February 26, 2016.
