Movie stars jet in as Luke Scott sci-fi thriller starts filming

By Cate McCurry

A host of stars are to descend on Northern Ireland when the son of Blade Runner director Ridley Scott starts shooting his own science fiction thriller here next month.

Kate Mara, the actress who played Zoe Barnes in House of Cards, has been cast as the lead in Morgan.

It tells the story of a corporate risk-management consultant who is summoned to a remote research lab to determine whether or not to terminate an at-risk artificial being.

Luke Scott is set to make his feature directorial debut.

Paul Giamatti, who appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and Toby Jones of The Hunger Games have also been cast in the film.

Northern Ireland Screen declined to confirm that it would facilitate the production, but said that this would "hopefully" be the case.

Russell Smith, chief executive of SmithDhen, a film and television legal company with offices in Londonderry, confirmed Fox Searchlight plans to make Morgan in Northern Ireland. NI Screen announced in 2012 that Ridley Scott was to produce six feature films here over three years under the title Ridley Scott Presents.
