Neeson starts work on Lincoln film
Saturday, 13 June 2009
Work is finally expected to begin on the biopic of Abraham Lincoln starring Liam Neeson.
Post-production of Steven Spielberg’s forthcoming The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn has finished freeing up the award-winning director to spend time on the Lincoln project.
Ballymena man Neeson is set to take on the lead role of the US president in the movie, opposite Sally Field.
To prepare for the role Neeson allegedly read 22 books about Lincoln and travelled to Washington DC to study Lincoln’s personal letters.
At 6ft 4, the lofty actor is the same height as Lincoln and was Spielberg’s first choice to play him in his movie.
Neeson was approached by Spielberg about the role four years ago but it has taken all this time to get the project off the ground due to Spielberg’s other movie commitments and rumours of financial restrictions.
Spielberg had been hoping the movie would be released in 2009 but had to put the movie on hold while filming took place on Tintin.
However, according to Sight and Sound magazine, Tintin has been completed and the Lincoln biopic is about to go into production.

Even a quick check on IMDB would confirm that Neeson is still at work on Clash of the Titans.
Yes, Lincoln may be in pre-production but there are 3 other films that Liam is involved in that are in pre-production and have earlier estimated release dates. Playing Hannibal Smith in the A-Team, although not publically confirmed, is due for release in 2010 with Lincoln 2011.
I would say Neeson's involvement in Lincoln at present is minimal. Spielberg & Co. are probably just scouting locations, etc.

Sally Field?

The level of unprofessionalism that goes into these artlcles never seases to amaze me. "Tintin" is a colossal production slated for release in late 2011 and is nowhere near being "completed".
"Post-production of Spielbergs Tintin has finished."
No, it hasn't. In fact it barely just started in earnest. What Sight and Sound probably meant is that filming just finished (possible considering June reshoots) and Spielberg has more time for other projects. He will still oversee post prod work though.
