Nicolas Cage: No plans to retire

Nicolas Cage has said after more than three decades acting in films he has no intention of retiring anytime soon, despite "fantasies of a life of contemplation."

The 49-year-old actor is premiering David Gordon Green's Joe at the Venice Film Festival.

Cage said while he may take off more time between films, "but film performance is a part of me."

He called Joe ''one of the most memorable" films he has worked on in his career.

Cage plays the title role, a hard-drinking ex-con whose struggle to maintain control of his life is undermined by his instincts to help a boy, portrayed by Tye Sheridan, living under the crux of an alcoholic father.

The film is among 20 vying for the coveted Golden Lion, awarded on September 7.
