No cigarettes in sight as Mad Men dolls emerge

Thursday, 11 March 2010

Don and Betty Draper would approve; those chain-smoking characters from the hit televison series Mad Men are to be immortalised in plastic.

Mattel will create a limited-edition release of dolls to celebrate the Emmy Award-winning show, broadcast on BBC4 in Britain, about fictional New York ad agency Sterling Cooper in the 1960s.

Aside from the Drapers, Roger Cooper and busty office manager Joan Holloway will be honoured. The dolls will come with accessories — but not the ubiquitous cigarettes.
