No cinema release for Gosling film

Ryan Gosling's directorial debut Lost River will not be released in US cinemas, according to reports.

Producer Marc Platt revealed that Warner Bros will not have a theatrical release for the fantasy drama in America, and will release it via home entertainment in April.

He told Collider: "It's being distributed by Warner Brothers and coming out in April."

The film, which marked Ryan's first stint behind the cameras, stars Christina Hendricks, Matt Smith and Saoirse Ronan as well as Ryan's girlfriend Eva Mendes.

The neo-noir movie, which focuses on a single mother and her two sons after they discover an underwater world, premiered in May at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received negative reviews by critics.

Lost River, formerly known as How To Catch A Monster, is still expected to be released in UK cinemas on April 24, 2015.
