Northern Ireland cinema’s new dimension
Saturday, 17 January 2009
Belfast city centre’s newest picture house, the Odeon, is promising patrons a state-of-the-art “immersion” experience.
With a barrage of blockbuster 3-D movies on the way, Ulster’s only Odeon has installed new technology combining advanced digital imagery and surround sound.
Walt Disney's new animated feature Bolt will be first up — a week ahead of its national release and kick-starting a regular flow of 3-D specials including Toy Story 3, Monsters vs Aliens, Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Up, G-Force, A Christmas Carol, and Avatar.
The technology may also be used to bring in an alternative to the movies, including sports events, popular music concerts, opera and ballet.
Karen Singleton, general manager of Odeon Belfast said: “The team here are thrilled to be bringing a truly immersive 3-D cinema experience to Belfast.
“With 2009 promising to be such an exciting year for 3-D film, we can't wait for local film fanatics to experience the state-of-the-art technology for themselves and enjoy this year's biggest blockbusters in the highest quality possible.”
