Northern Ireland fans queue to meet sci-fi guru George RR Martin
Wednesday, 4 November 2009
The stars of a pilot for a HBO TV series took a break from filming in Belfast yesterday to support the author who dreamed up their latest work.
Game Of Thrones, with a cast led by Sean Bean, is being filmed at locations across Northern Ireland including the Paint Hall in the Titanic Quarter.
Although Bean was absent from the signing at Eason’s in Belfast city centre yesterday — he was busy filming in his role as Eddard Stark — there was still a stampede from fans of American sci-fi author George RR Martin on whose fantasy novels the series is based.
Mr Martin said he was pleased by the impressive turnout of fans and said he had used his trip to visit locations for Game Of Thrones. “We were at Cairncastle yesterday for an execution scene. It was a bleak setting and pretty appropriate,” he said.
“I haven’t been to the Paint Hall yet, though.”
Mr Martin is no stranger to the world of TV and movies after working on cult TV programme The Twilight Zone and the lesser-known Beauty And The Beast.

Wow!
Pity there's no photos to go with the story.

Lesser known Beauty and The Beast?? You must live in another world then the rest of us. This is probably one of the most well known and criticly acclaimed drama series to come out of the US in the late 80's.
It was also the breakout roles for Linda Hamilton (Terminator 1&2, Dante's Peak) and Ron Pearlman (Hellboy 1&2, Sons of Anarchy, Enemy at the Gates).
