Obama to host Mandela screening

Idris Elba and Naomie Harris have been invited to movie night at the White House, where Barack Obama is holding a special screening of Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom for the cast.

Nelson Mandela's daughters Zindzi and Zenani Mandela have also been invited along to watch the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Idris plays Nelson Mandela and Naomie plays his ex wife Winnie in the film based on Nelson's autobiography, that tells the story of his early life and 27 years in prison before becoming president and working to unite his country's segregated society.

Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and recently had its South African premiere in Johannesburg, attended by Winnie.

The film has been made by the Weinstein Company and Harvey Weinstein said: "Knowing what a strong relationship President Obama has with President Mandela, it's an honour for this film to be shown at the White House."

Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom is released in cinemas on January 3, 2014.
