Oscars stick to late February date

Colin Firth was crowned best actor at this year's Oscars

The Academy Awards are sticking to the last weekend in February rather than moving to an earlier date.

Tom Sherak, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, has announced that next year's ceremony will be held on February 26 - the same Sunday as most other recent Oscar shows.

Oscar organisers have considered changing the date of the show, saying earlier film awards might be stealing some of the thunder of Hollywood's biggest night.

Among the 2010 winners were Black Swan star Natalie Portman for best actress, and Colin Firth as best actor for The King's Speech.

Nominations for the 84th Oscars will be announced on January 24.
