Palicki: I can handle GI Joe guys

Adrianne Palicki stars in GI Joe: Retaliation

Adrianne Palicki has revealed she didn't mind being surrounded by guys on GI Joe: Retaliation.

The 29-year-old, who plays Lady Jaye in Jon M Chu's sequel alongside Dwayne Johnson, Bruce Willis and Channing Tatum, admitted her male co-stars weren't too overprotective.

"I held my own, I think. I'm much better with guns than these guys are, and in other things, so I fit right in," she said.

Adrianne, who has appeared on TV shows Friday Night Lights, Smallville and the 2011 TV pilot of Wonder Woman, said her previous experience helped her cope with the strenuous training for this film.

"I'm not necessarily a pro, but I did have experience from when I did Red Dawn. We did a lot of training for that, and in Wonder Woman, I had combat training so that all helped," she said.

"But this was an intense, rigorous schedule. It was about a month and a half in New Orleans. We had eight hours a day of just sheer training to the point where you're going home crying because you're bleeding and sore, and thinking, 'I have to wake up and do this for three more weeks?'."

The actress admitted she had nerves about the role.

"I was a little nervous when I got the part, because it's rare to find a really strong female role in Hollywood. I was a little afraid she was going to run around in Spandex or she would be sexualised in a huge way, and I just love that she is in fatigues and a ponytail for the majority of the movie," she explained.

"She gets her one moment in that red dress, and I love it because she just stays true to that whole kick-ass mentality for a female."

GI Joe: Retaliation is in cinemas now.
