Paul Rudd going to Sausage Party

Paul Rudd has joined upcoming animated comedy Sausage Party.

The Anchorman star will voice a character in Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's R-rated film, reported The Wrap.

Danny McBride and Anders Helm have also signed up for the movie, which will follow a packet of sausages who fall out of a supermarket trolley and end up on a perilous journey through the shop as they try to get back to their shelf.

Previously confirmed cast members include Salma Hayek, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Edward Norton, Kristen Wiig and James Franco, who is also one of the producers.

While it's an animated comedy, Sausage Party will be for adults, with Columbia Pictures' Hannah Minghella previously explaining it would be "irreverent, insightful and risque".

Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan will direct the feature, from a script by Seth, Evan, Kyle Hunter and Ariel Shaffir.

Sausage Party will be released on June 3, 2016.
