Pegg set to co-write Star Trek 3

Simon Pegg is set to add a writing credit to his involvement in the next Star Trek film.

The Shaun Of The Dead star will reprise his role as Scotty for Star Trek 3, but according to Deadline, this time he will also co-pen the script.

Simon is going to team up with Doug Jung, creator of the US TV series Dark Blue, for the next instalment in the franchise, which has just secured Fast And Furious director Justin Lin after Roberto Orci dropped out.

His previous writing experience includes penning the Cornetto trilogy - Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End - alongside Edgar Wright, as well as Run Fatboy Run, all of which he also starred in.

Doug has written a film called Diamond for JJ Abrams' production company Bad Robot and Paramount before, which is how he landed the Star Trek job.

Simon can be seen later this year in Mission: Impossible 5, and in the comedies Man Up and Absolutely Anything.

Star Trek 3 is due to be released in 2016.
