Perry: I'm a fan of family fun

Katy Perry put her personal stamp on her Smurfs character

Katy Perry has revealed why she jumped onto the Smurfs bandwagon - because it will be a hit with both big and little kids alike.

The Teenage Dream songstress lends her voice to Smurfette in the upcoming 3D live-action and CGI movie, based on the comic books created by Peyo.

"It's a positive story and it has a sweet side and there's a great message. I think it's very family-oriented and that's why I wanted to be a part of it," she told Entertainment Tonight.

Katy, who is married to funnyman Russell Brand, also helped with the development of her character as well.

"When I'm doing the voice for Smurfette it's really interesting because I get to be a part of creating her character and adding little nuances to her who I guess she is on the big screen. The voice is basically my voice but throw some rocks in it. Just a little bit rockier," she continued.

Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Hank Azaria and Sofia Vergara also star in the film, which opens in UK cinemas on August 10.
